- KIPO provides a ‘patent search service delivered to customers’ -

Starting now, researchers will be able to search for patents at the homepage of their own agency.

As a part of ‘realizing administration that can impress customers,’ KIPO (Commissioner JUN, Sang Woo) announced that it will provide a convenient ‘patent search service delivered to customers’ starting in June. Agencies will be able to search for patents on their own homepage using the patent search service of KIPRIS. KIPRIS is a free industrial property search program from KIPO.

After an agency installs an exclusive program on their homepage to open a search window, users can type in the name of patent they want to search. Then, the ‘patent search service delivered to customers’ will automatically connect to KIRPIS to provide the search results directly at the homepage.

Through this service, users will feel like they are using a patent search system from their own agency, and they will enjoy the convenience.
Taking a step further than a simple linking service, this user-oriented service will be evaluated as a new way of sharing information.

Last July, KIPO tested this service on Naver, a commercial portal site, to collect users’ opinions. Based on the feedback, an exclusive program has been developed to fully provide the ‘patent search service delivered to customers’ this June.

Thanks to this service, R&D agencies such as companies/research labs/universities can now save considerable money necessary to establish their own DB on patent information. By connecting patent information with their own system, they can improve the efficiency of their R&D.

As the environment improves, more people will be able to use patent information, resulting in a nationwide activation.

KIPO is planning to monitor the status and demand of this service continuously, so that it can be extended to private homepages as well. Starting next year, KIPO is also planning to diversify its support by launching a service-oriented web offering.

Agencies that want to use ‘patent search service delivered to customers’ can apply for it at Information Planning Team, KIPO or KIPRIS Operation Team, KIPI (Korea Institute of Patent Information).
